James Gordon
It'll be the second solo Bound for Glory for James Gordon,
formerly of Tamarack. What a wonderful writer, and what a
sparkling performer! James has a way of getting inside the
characters he creates, making his songs feel both very real
and very memorable. We are honored to have him back on
Bound for Glory this summer.

|
22-Jul-2001 |
Kate McDonnell
It's been way, way too long since
the last time Kate McDonnell appeared on Bound for Glory.
Kate is a fine writer, and a glorious singer, who has
finally settled in Albany after several years living far,
far away, so it's now easy for her to come back to Bound
for Glory. We certainly won't argue.

|
15-Jul-2001 |
Tamarack
Please welcome the new Tamarack, the
current version of the wonderful Canadian trio. Alex
Sinclair, Molly Kurvink, and Shelley Coopersmith bring you
Canadian Routes music, the musical stories of Canada, old
and new, with great harmonies and tremendous power. An
evening worth remembering.

|
08-Jul-2001 |
Amy Fradon and her band
It was just a year ago that we were all treated
to a fantastic performance by Amy Fradon. She's a
contemporary singer-songwriter, whose music has many
hints of the music that has come before her.
Her songs tell stories, all kinds of non-standard stories
that will surprise and please her audience.
|
|
01-Jul-2001 |
Andrew McKnight
Been trying for years to work out a date for
Andrew McKnight on Bound for Glory. He hails from
the Shenandoah Valley, and his songs reflect that
wonderful place. His performance is full of bright energy,
and it will be a delight to have him on the show.

24-Jun-2001 |
Dan Berggren
What a fine way to start our summer
season! Dan Berggren grew up in the Adirondacks. He is a
gentle singer, traditionally flavored songwriter, and good
humored storyteller who completely charms the audience
every time he appears on WVBR's Bound for Glory. Please
welcome him back.

Pierce Pettis
It's the last show of the Spring, and one of the best ever,
as we welcome back Pierce Pettis, from Alabama, via every
folk venue in North America. Pierce Pettis is one of the
most powerful, charismatic singer-songwriters that you have
ever heard, on any stage anywhere. And we're proud to end
our season in such fine company.

29-Apr-2001 |
Flapjack / Garrison Creek
Well, what does an old-timey band out of Canada sound like?
Put a bunch of Toronto's best folk musicians on stage
together, add some truly wild percussion, and you have a
rollicking, sparkling evening, out of the folk tradition,
with a twist.. We're delighted to have Garrison Creek back
on Bound for Glory, and you will be too.
|
|
22-Apr-2001 |
Sparky Rucker
It's been many a year since Sparky Rucker graced the Bound
for Glory stage. He's one of America's prime interpreters
of the African-American folk tradition, with a story to go
with every song. He makes people from the past jump alive
into the present. What a grand troubadour!
|
|
15-Apr-2001 |
Denice Franke
Denice Franke is a very intense, powerful singer and
songwriter, coming our way from Houston, Texas. You can
hear a touch of the blues in her homemade songs, as she
points directly at the core of what really happens in life.
A much awaited Bound for Glory, and Ithaca, debut.
|
|
08-Apr-2001 |
Bill Staines
Many, many times, WVBR's Bound for Glory has had the
privilege of hosting Bill Staines on a Sunday night. Bill
remains one of the driving forces in North America's folk
world today, writing marvelous songs that everyone loves to
sing. So come sing on the choruses. It's always great fun,
and good medicine for whatever ails you, when Bill Staines
comes back to Bound for Glory.
|
|
01-Apr-2001 |
Small Potatoes
Small Potatoes is an outstanding, highly eclectic duo from
Illinois, who, just a few months ago, won the second annual
Best of Bound for Glory award, having appeared on our 1000th
live concert broadcast. Their musicianship is impeccable,
and their smiles are infectious. It'll be an evening of
pure magic.

11-Mar-2001 |
Saul Broudy
It'll be the second time around for Saul Broudy on Bound for
Glory. He's a little bit older, and has a different
attitude, from most of the Bound for Glory performers.
You'll hear everything from Woody Guthrie to southern
traditional to '50's rock 'n' roll. We're very glad to have
him back on the show.
|
|
04-Mar-2001 |
Mark Rust
It's hard to believe it's been 2 1/2 years since Mark Rust
last appeared on Bound for Glory. By March he should have a
new album out. His songs and stories about his family,
about life on the road, and about his years in Ithaca, are
wonderful, and make him one of the most requested Bound for
Glory performers.
|
February 2001 |
25-Feb-2001 |
Darryl Porpoise
When you list the best singer-songwriters around today, you
have to include Darryl Purpose, yarn spinner and generally
magic guy. Darryl's led an unusual life and you can really
feel it in his songs and performance. His second visit to
Bound for Glory.
|
|
18-Feb-2001 |
Connie Kaldor
Another debut from an outstanding Canadian artist. Connie
Kaldor's been on the music scene for decades. Her music is
contemporary, her sense of humor timeless, her energy
legendary, her backup guy amazing. What a treat! Don't
miss this show.
|
|
11-Feb-2001 |
Rod MacDonald
By now Rod MacDonald is an old friend of Bound for Glory.
Nowadays he hails from Florida, so he gets to these parts
less often. He's a songwriter of wry good humor and unusual
social and political commentary. And sometimes he's just
having a good time with his music. Always a special show.
|
|
04-Feb-2001 |
Noah Zacharin
Time for a Bound for Glory debut from a superb performer
from Toronto. Noah Zacharin is an excellent songwriter, and
he also has an interesting and unusual take on some of the
old blues. Let's make him welcome on his first visit to
Ithaca.

28-Jan-2001 |
The Original Fat City String Band
It was about 30 years ago that Mac Benford, Walt Koken, and
Bob Potts came to Ithaca, playing old timey music in a way
that stood the folk world on its ear. Well, they're still
doing it today, having revived the Original Fat City String
Band and put out an album. Get your toes tapping.
|
|
21-Jan-2001 |
Cliff Eberhardt
Let's start the new season out in a superb way with Cliff
Eberhardt, an outstanding performer, a super songwriter, a
neat slide guitar player, and a very funny guy. This will
be Cliff's second Bound for Glory appearance, and many of us
haven't forgotten the first one.

John Kirk & Trish Miller
John and Trish are long time Bound for Glory favorites, very
welcome back after too long an absence. Fiddle, guitar, banjo,
clogging (yes, we will mike the stage). John and Trish do
everything from hot old time fiddling to contemporary songs, and
all of it sparkles. A great way to end our season.

Don Cognoscenti
Welcome back one of America's top contemporary acoustic
singer-songwriters. DonCon, as he calls himself in print and on
line, is a wild and charming performer, with stories to tell, and
songs full of vivid images.
|
|
12-Nov-2000 |
Sirens
This all-women's trio comes to us from Toronto, full of intense,
welcoming energy. They bring us powerful vocals, and delightful,
often simple songs. A very welcome Bound for Glory debut.
|
|
05-Nov-2000 |
The Lost Boys
Please welcome the Lost Boys to WVBR's Bound for Glory. The
Lost Boys is a bluegrass trio from Syracuse, N.Y., featuring
some of the best pickin' and singin' in this part of the
world. Join us for a hot, high energy evening.
|
October 2000 |
29-Oct-2000 |
Cosy Sheridan
Cosy Sheridan is one of our Bound for Glory favorites, now
hailing from Utah. She's alternately and very suddenly either
hilarious or very serious. Sometimes she sounds like ragtime, at
other times very contemporary. Then she'll sing an old song and
we'll hang on every word. A very special evening.
|
|
22-Oct-2000 |
Tanglefoot
Tanglefoot is a five piece band from way up in Northern Ontario.
Their songs spring out of the folk tradition, their energy just
crackles, and there's magic afoot. This is Tanglefoot's second
Bound for Glory visit, sure to be one of the Fall's high points.
|
|
15-Oct-2000 |
Peter Keane
Welcome back Peter Keane, from Austin, Texas, bluesy singer and
guitarist. Peter writes his own, but in the styles of the
acoustic blues guys of the old days, especially of Mississippi
John Hurt. He's charming in a seemingly effortless way, just a
delight on stage.

01-Oct-2000 |
Amy Gallatin and Stillwaters
They're not quite bluegrass, though they feel like a bluegrass
band. Amy Gallatin is a great singer, and she picks the best
songs she can find, on the country side of folk music, and keeps
together a band that's worthy of her. A wonderful, high energy
show. |
September 2000 |
24-Sep-2000 |
Trout Fishing in America
This is the Bound for Glory debut, decades in the offing, of
TFIA, one of the sparkling stars of the American folk world.
They perform for adults and for kids with the same wild,
improbable sense of humor. You don't think like these guys, and
neither does anybody else. What great entertainers! Best seen
live... |
|
17-Sep-2000 |
Y'ALL
They used to call it Old Time Country Music for the 21st Century.
I wonder what they call it now. Y'ALL is incredibly funny, with
poignant songs in the tradition of country stars of the 30's and
40's, that really sneak up on you. So does the Lucky Green
Dress. Y'ALL these days hails from Nashville. |
|
10-Sep-2000 |
Dana Robinson
Though Dana Robinson has been on Bound for Glory within the year,
as part of a delightful duo with Lui Collins, this is his first
solo show in several years. Dana is one of the few contemporary
songwriters who is deeply committed to the American southern folk
tradition. And he has the chops on both guitar and fiddle to
really make it work. |
|
03-Sep-2000 |
Margo Hennebach and Mark Saunders
Margo Hennebach is a fine contemporary acoustic
singer-songwriter, from Connecticut, who also occasionally shifts
gears to sing an old Irish ballad. Her husband, Mark Saunders,
is one outstanding guitarist. Spend Sunday night of Labor Day
weekend with Bound for Glory. |
August 2000 |
27-Aug-2000 |
Jack Hardy
We start our 34th year with an old friend, Jack Hardy, singer and
songwriter, man of wry humor and deep understanding, outstanding
performer. Jack is one of the mainstays of the New York City
folk scene, but his vision is ancient, contemporary, and
timeless. A great start to a super fall. |
