The Cornell Folk Song Club launches its new season with a concert featuring Jay Ungar and Molly Mason. Jay and Molly treat their audience to a fun and joyful celebration as they take us on a lively and comforting musical journey from historical dance and fiddle tunes to Civil War songs, to Texas swing and new compositions. Jay's fiddling is world renowned and Molly's voice is silky and her beat steady. In song and on guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, and piano, they fill the heart with their passion for traditional and traditionally inspired music.

The duo gained national fame and acclaim, plus a Grammy, for their work on Ken Burns' The Civil War series. Their performance of Jay's hauntingly beautiful Ashokan Farewell won an Emmy nomination and inspired a host of fiddlers to add this soulful tune to their repertoire. They have appeared on PBS's Great Performances, are frequent guests on A Prairie Home Companion, and have now worked on soundtracks for many films and documentaries. Jay and Molly hail from the Hudson valley, where many folks from the Ithaca region and nationwide make pilgrimages to the Ashokan Fiddle and Dance Camps that they run. When Jay and Molly play in Ithaca, it feels like a homecoming.

This concert is in Barnes Hall, which is more familiar as a venue for classical music. It's the first time the Cornell Folk Song Club has been able to reserve this space. With its Steinway piano, with which Molly will have lots of fun, and amazing acoustics, Barnes Hall will make this performance by Jay and Molly not only delightful, but also legendary.

Tickets are available at Ithaca Guitar Works, Greenstar Co-op, Small World Music, Colophon Books, and, if any are left, at the door. You may also order tickets online and by mail: SASE to CFSC, PO Box 481, Ithaca, NY 14851.
