Broadside Electric, "Pennsylvania's answer to Steeleye Span," is Philadelphia's leading, longest-lived electric folk band, which took root in 1990.

Since 1997, three founding members (Tom Rhoads on vocals, guitars, cittern, dulcimer; Jim Speer on Chapman Stick, bass guitar, recorders, crumhorn; Helene Zisook on violins, violas, mandolins, vocals) and two additions (Joe D'Andrea on drums, percussion, vocals; Amy Ksir on flute, tin whistles, oboe, vocals), have been serving up Music with Teeth,solidly researched songs, dances, and old ballads from English, Celtic, Klezmer, Balkan, and American traditions, delivered with verve, humor, and inspired, original arrangements.

They have a hearty respect for truly ancient traditions, yet infuse them with their own wit and creativity. Their innovation never drowns out the source, but supports and refreshes it. The vocal harmonies are rich and the blend of medieval and modern instruments is skilled and surprising. Somehow, they can time-travel from the Renaissance to grisly Child ballads to Croatian folk dances to Bob Dylan, transporting their audience on a wild ride.

This high-energy band will rock and sock the heat into an Ithaca November night. It might even be enough to deter winter (for a bit).
