Nerissa & Katryna Nields in Concert
Nerissa and Katryna Nields are returning to Ithaca after a multiple year absence. Most folks familiar with the Nields through their performances at Falcon Ridge or elsewhere all over the world since the early nineties, know them as a five-member band that rocks the folk world. This season, however, the two Nields sisters are touring as a duo. They haven't lost any of their army-boot chicness or spirited energy, but now Nerissa and Katryna are emphasizing their close harmonies and story-telling songs and countrified airs. Filling their concerts with playful antics, the Nields still engage their audience, often filled with adoring fans, with an experience that has been described as "personal, dynamic, and sublimely beautiful." Although the sisters have been singing together all their lives, the idea of performing as a duo only occurred to them with they were asked to drop the boys from the band to play at a Lilith Fair in 1998. They liked the sound and the new intimacy it gave them. With only a short break in 2001 -- so Katryna could have a baby -- the sisters are back on the road and wowing coffeehouses, festivals, and college campuses again. The Cornell Folk Song Club is pleased to open its Spring concert season with the unique harmony and lively spontaneity of the Nields. It is something we all may need in February. Tickets are available at Ithaca Guitar Works, Borealis Bookstore, Then and Now (I-Town) Records, and at the door. You may also order tickets online. For information about the concert, contact
